Permanent change in diet. Is it even possible?

Blog - 2020-06-18

Most of the affected people have a fairly good idea of their reserves in the diet. A good initial examination with a complete nutritional history is key to planning any changes in each person's diet.

Most of the affected people have a fairly good idea of their reserves in the diet.

When asked whether they have already tried to do something with their diet, whether they have experience with a reduction diet or some specific nutritional direction, then almost everyone answers that they do. However, the success rate (and usefulness) of these lifestyle interventions is unfortunately not often high. One would like to write that why this is so is a big unknown, but it is not true. The reason, in the vast majority of cases, is that the nutritional martyrdom experienced was not proportionate to the goal, if any was set at all.

A good initial examination with a complete nutritional history is key to planning any changes in each person's diet. Naming the problem together and planning the steps that will lead to the set goal is an integral part of the nutritional consultation. Very often it happens that we set too hard and unrealistic goals, which are very difficult to achieve, and this is far from being a problem only with weight reduction. There can be many bad habits that we cultivate over many years, and it may not take just a few weeks to get rid of them. Sometimes it's a long run, and it's worth going for it with the support of someone who tames you in the initial over-motivation and encourages you when the goal seems unattainable as time goes on. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be a long-distance run, and it isn't - it's just a matter of determining the most necessary changes in your diet, which, for example, with physical activity, will slowly but surely lead to an improvement in your health.

Very often, people are also subject to modern, but scientifically unfounded nutritional trends and trends. They promise from them everything from improving health, through weight reduction to improving sports performance. After trying many of them, they gradually eliminate large groups of foods from their diet (typically cereals and milk, but also many others) and the diet gradually becomes dull, loses variety and joy disappears from food. Uncovering and breaking down these sometimes unnecessary restrictions and replacing them with more reasonable and truly necessary measures usually leads to real, albeit slower, but permanent progress towards better health.

If the situations described are somewhat familiar to you and you are more or less struggling with proper eating, make an appointment for an initial nutritional consultation. You will clarify what the problem actually is and you will finally step in the right direction.
