Movement and mobility disorders
Limitation of range of motion is a medical condition in which the movement or flexibility of joints, muscles or other parts of the body is limited. This condition can significantly affect quality of life and normal activities such as walking, sitting or the normal of handling of objects.
Diagnosing mobility limitations involves a physical examination, patient history and often imaging tests such as X-rays or MRIs. The doctor may also perform flexibility and mobility tests.
Causes
- Limited movement can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
- Injuries such as sprains or strains
- Chronic conditions such as arthritis or degenerative disc disease
- Muscle or tendon contractions
- Age and related wear and tear on joints and muscles
Symptoms
- Pain when moving
- Reduced range of motion
- Stiffness of joints or muscles
- Inability to perform normal activities such as sitting, walking or lifting objects
