Overweight - nutrition counseling
Overweight is a medical term which refers to excess body weight compared to the norm. This condition is often measured using the body mass index (BMI), where a value above 25 usually indicates being overweight. Being overweight is associated with the risk of developing a number of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and some forms of cancer.
Diagnosing being overweight usually includes measurement of BMI, waist circumference and other laboratory tests as needed (e.g. blood sugar, cholesterol). A detailed examination including patient history and a physical examination may also be required.
